We were camping alongside the track and woke up to the horses doing their morning exercises - 17 March 2025
Dun colored wild horse (Equus caballus) in the Sand Wash Basin, Colorado. Technically these photos probably should be in the Wild Mammal section, but they are descendants of domestic horses - 8 July 2024
Trotting toward the other two stallions because a dog was chasing them. He was actually trotting toward the commotion. There was a bit of excitement, but none of them were really too concerned. They went right back to grazing as soon as the dog's owner got him under control and left - 8 July 2024
Red (strawberry) roan stallion, Sand Wash Basin, Colorado. The slanting "W" mark on his side is likely from scarring where the chestnut base-color grew in without the white hairs - 8 July 2024

Forever Friends Forever Friends is a life-size bronze sculpture in Curren Apple Orchard Park in the City of University Place, Washington. The sculpture, created by Washington artist John Jewell, is of the ex-racehorse and grandson of Man o' War, Brewster, and a little girl feeding him an apple (stolen by vandals). Brewster lived at the Curran Apple Orchard in the 1950s and 60s and often accepted apples and other treats from children. This photo won a 9th place Crowd Vote ranking on Photocrowd out of 1786 photos entered in a 'Statues and Figurines of Animals' contest - 20 December 2023
Picasso: Spirit of the West Mural in Golden Colorado by Christina Lor'en Morrison from a photo by photographer Scott Wilson. Picasso, who lived for about 30 years (almost unheard of for a wild mustang) in the Sand Wash Basin of Colorado and was one of the most photographed mustangs. He was last seen in 2019. Technically this should probably be in the wild animal gallery... - 21 October 2023
