The Ruby Mountians of Nevada
We actually found the Ruby Mountains on Atlas Obscura so this probably should go in that section. We drove out of the dusty desert near Elko, Nevada and into a lush green beautiful mountain range. This range was extensively glacially carved during the last glaciation, so it has U-shaped and hanging valleys, steeply carved cliffs, and cirques. The highest peak (Ruby Dome) reaches 11,387 feet (3,470.8 m). The whole place was just breathtaking.
